Eleanor Hagert

Eleanor Hagert is a Art Psychotherapist. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem or relationship concerns, Eleanor creates a safe and supportive space for examining how to access your true potential. Through her empathic and open-minded style she encourages self-empowerment through the exploration of behavior and emotion.

For the creative minded person, Eleanor has also worked extensively with artists, dancers, musicians and actors who are experiencing career blockage and anxieties.  Additionally her experience with art therapy allows for access to unconscious emotions that may be difficult to express with words. Creative expression is also beneficial in increasing self-esteem and creating a sense of calm. Making art is encouraged but not necessary in session. Many clients choose to focus on traditional psychotherapy and forms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy without the art component. Eleanor prides herself on the ability to integrate numerous styles to cater to each person’s specific needs for growth.

Eleanor has spent numerous years treating and supporting individuals whose lives are impacted by addictive substances and behaviors. She is currently pursuing her credentialing as a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor.  Her experience in an outpatient treatment center integrated substance abuse counseling, art therapy and psychotherapy. Previously she has worked in Rikers Island Correctional Facility providing mental heath and art therapy services to incarcerated individuals.

Her research in utilizing art therapy with an incarcerated individual has recently been featured in "Art Therapy for Psychosis: Theory and Practice" published by The International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis Book Series (Routledge 2017).
